Depression is a common mental disorder and one of the leading causes of suicide in India. Although it is treatable through medications, 30-40% of the patients are not benefited. Yoga can reduce stress and improve overall health and thus be beneficial for patients with depression.Team at Yoga Centre, NIMHANS came up with booklet “Yoga for Depression” in 2010. This book focusses on yoga practices which are found to be useful for patients with depression. These practices were finalized with in consultation with yoga professionals and further have been tested in research studies. This book is available for free download.
The second edition of the book, focusing on the research studies on yoga for depression conducted at Department Of Integrative Medicine over the last decade, has been published recently. The book was released by the honourable Minister of Health and Family Welfare,Dr. Harshvardhan and the honourable Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri B. S. Yeddiyurappa on 16th September, 2019 on the occasion of the 24th Convocation of NIMHANS. The book is currently available for thepublic at the Department of Publication, NIMHANS, Bengaluru.
